Your Sunday Poem

This by Kay Ryan from her new book, The Best of It; New and Selected Peoms

Felix Crow

Crow school
is basic and
short as a rule --
just the rudiments
of quid pro crow
for most students.
Then each lives out
his unenlightened
span, adding his
bit of blight
to the collected
history of pushing out
the sweeter species;
briefly swaggering the
swagger of his
aggravating ancestors
down my street.
And every time
I like him
when we meet.

Sewer University

Sewer University
Has no entrance exam
Just grab your agenda
and run with the other students.
Each lives out
the missing scenes of their lives
adding, embellishing, copying, cramming
pasting a smidgeon of chewed cud
to the menacing paper mache man;
At night
as the images fly
like ghosts through the ether,
he swaggers on whispering sands
through the empty lots.
hoping to catch in the blinking squares
within the condemned houses
a fleeting glimpse
of himself.

Can't even read Ann's site anymore because of the arguing and the self-promotion. Might as well call this site Alon's Poetry Blog.

Thanks to both Ann and Alon for very entertaining poetry today.

(Sorry, couldn't do last weeks poem, it made me too sad and depressed.)

Uh, Towner, you do know you can read this blog without clicking on the "comment" sections, don't you? If you find the comments stupid, you really don't have to read them. Or comment on the comments. That's strictly your choice.

Ahh, Alon! The image of your paper mache man is brilliant, and your lead up to establish this image is even better!

Kay Ryan's "Felix Crow" is another delight!

Ann's offensive comment to SLOTowner
does not deserve comment.
