Halloween Ramble

Before the goblins return to the dark and the Thanksgiving Turkey arrives, best get up to Cambria for their annual month-long scarecrow festival.

All over town and throughout the residential areas, folks have gone all out to construct some wonderful, very clever, scarecrows.  Those in front of  businesses are often themed, but all of them are totally fun.

With October’s bright blue weather here, it’s a perfect way to spend the day.

This charmer’s sign warned passers by not to touch lest Audrey have a little finger snack. While (below) the Adams Family was set for their portraits.

And don’t try getting directions from this befuddled big bad wolf.  He was just growly and thoroughly confused.

Probably because he had his eyes on that tasty calico cat a few feet away. Hard to think straight when your tummy’s growly.

There were plenty of crows, including this one who clearly was singing an caw- aria.

While this cat and crow listened to the caw-concert.

Then there was the most amazing set up, a cycling-through-time display, all hooked up to an electric motor, with all the little scarecrow legs pedaling away, from youth to middle age and finally . . .

there’s death bringing up the rear, thereby proving that exercise is bad for you.

Meanwhile, outside the beautifully restored historical museum, a hot dog was flying.

And who could blame the pooch for getting the heck out of there.   Look what’s after him. . . .

I have missed this so thanks so much for showing us how cool this crazy festival is with these great shots!

Nothing was so frightening to see as the two Tornatskys at the board of supervisors meeting today, praising the board for the wonderful sewer project they brought to Los Osos. Two old timers now, even more twisted, still out of touch, still out of step after all these years.

Ha-ha-ha! Nothing? Wow! You sure scare easy!

Out of step with what, the four who nit pick weekly over the sand in their shoes?

Ironic, given that Julie Tacker's appearance on Congalton scared you and Lou into showing up.

Nope. That had been decided weeks prior. Best not to make assumptions on coincidence! It makes you look stupid.

Nope. Don't believe you for a second. There was no reason for you, Lou and Gretchen to be there. You specifically mentioned the Congalton Show and the callers who opposed the project.

Why don't you just be honest, Lynette, and admit you've got your pale nose permanently up Julie's butt -- and you LOVE it!!!!

Actually, Anon 10:02, that description fits you perfectly. This was a posting on the Cambria Scarecrow Festival until you came along and started, once again, with your obsession over Toonces. Anonnymice seem to have such a peculiar penchant for projection.

Great photos, Ann.

You seem to be the one obsessed with "Toonces". Without her you would have no blog. No matter how sick she is, you need her. Try a little honesty for a change.

Anonymouse, Oh, please. You're engaging in projection again. You're the one who's following Toonces around. You're the one who keeps track of anything she does, or says, no matter where it is, at he BOS, CSD, whatever, and then keeps turning up here to comment on whatever she's been up to or had to say anywhere. Sorry, Anonnymouse; You're the one obsessed with and stalking her, not I.

Bev: Thanks. I went back up there again, this time on a Saturday, and the town was packed. that's really been a very successful project. Lots of visitors, everyone having a wonderful time. Think that's just going to grow each year since more and more people are getting into the spirit of the thing. And hopefully was a real boon to the merchants!

We hiked Salmon Creek yesterday and saw passing through that the scarecrows have spread to San Simeon. Our favorite was the "Cycling Through the Ages" scarecrow(s) entry with each figure pedaling at a pace characteristic of their age. Great animation.

Scarecrows and...zebras at Hearst Castle...6-8 of them, at least, grazing right by the highway. It was my first time seeing zebras there in over 30 years living on the coast. they looked so natural grazing there, like burros in Halloween get-ups.
