A Thanksgiving Poem

This by James Wright from his book:" James Wright: Collected Poems." Hope you are all having a lovely, chilly Thanksgiving day.

A Poem By Garnie Braxton

"Garnie, I wish I was a seagull."

"Yeah, me too,
And when you want to get warm
All you got to do
Is put on your feathers
And fly away to the south.

I been there once."

Something I heard as a youngster
from a very insightful minister
came back to me this week:

Commenting on Jesus' healing of the 10 lepers,
where only one came back to thank Him,
he said:

"Thanksgiving is not the fruit of prosperity;
it is the impulse of a thoughtful, just soul."

Or,
as an old mountain preacher in Tennessee
used to put it ....

"It ain't whatcha got...
It's whatcha thot ..."

Happy thinking this Thanksgiving!
