Your Sunday Poem

This by Mary Oliver from her book, "Thirst," Beacon Press, 2006.

Praying

It doesn't have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don't try
to make them elaborate, this isn't
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.

She's an early riser, what do the dogs think about that.

In my house Finn is up at 4 a.m. whistling at the hall door, wanting out, wanting to race into the back yard, thinking that early morning rabbits might be lurking there.

Figgers, Cool McFinn
Some dogs have the personality of Grumpy Humans who would rather hit the snooze button 4-5 times.

OK since the oil slick post got boarded by sewer pirates let me say it here.
Please Ghod ( Or whatever deity has some torque), Save the Florida Keys from this catastrophe. We spent a couple of weeks exploring down there , Key West, Marathon, and probably one of the best parks I've ever been at Bahia Honda.
If you have never been there, put it in the bucket list.
I now live in a house right next to the beach, I can't imagine how pissed I'd be if my beach got oiled.
Imagine Montana De Oro and what that would be like.
Louisiana needs our help.

Mike: The country needs to get serious about our oil-based economy/country and get seriously serious about shifting gears. But, I fear that won't happen. Money talks, apathy rules and the keys will die and everyone will just shrug, oh, well. And with the Roberts Supreme Court ruling, corporations such as PB can easily buy any congress/senate people they want so don't look for rules to change much. The American people are screaming at the Prez to "do something" while they keep electing and reelecting oily congresspeople whose bought and paid for job is to see that the Prez can do nothing. Nuts.

... at the same time those same American people are driving gas vehicles that get less than 20 miles per gallon.

"Do something Prez! Now, I'm going to get in my Hummer, and drive three blocks to the store."

Me? I kill less people and birds, and soil less beaches, than almost everybody.

I drive an old (and awesome!) Volkswagen diesel vehicle that gets between 40 - 50 mpg, and I run it on vegetable when I can, and I drive waaaay less than the average American gas guzzler, and I can do the (rare) engine work on it, blindfolded.

And, my last two office jobs, I biked to work every morning.

Yep. I start fewer wars, kill less birds (and people), and soil less beaches than almost ALL Americans... a...boo...yeah.

Although, the Eric Greenings and Bill Deneens of the world have me beat in that category.

"I run it on vegetable when I can..."

should have read:

"I run it on vegetable oil when I can..."

Commute by bike more.

Yep, there you have it in a nutshell. No coherence. It's the same mentality that demands -- DEMANDS! -- services from the "hated government," but refuses -- REFUSES! -- to pay taxes to pay for the services demanded. NUTS.
